2026: 35 Years in the Czech Republic, 80 Years Worldwide

The year 2026 will be written in gold in the history of Czech-American relations. We are commemorating 35 years since the agreement to establish the Fulbright Commission was signed in the former Czechoslovakia, marking at the same time a magnificent 80 years since the inception of the global program that forever changed the face of international education. Since 1991, when Václav Havel and Shirley Temple-Black stood at the birth of the Czech branch, thousands of talented students, scholars, and high school teachers have passed through the program, bringing American drive and global expertise to their respective fields. This year’s jubilee is not just about looking back, but rather about a vibrant and ongoing dialogue.

You have much to look forward to as we celebrate these milestones. We are producing an exclusive podcast series featuring the inspiring stories of our alumni—ranging from world-class scientists to artists who found a new direction thanks to their Fulbright experience. We are also preparing an Alumni Reunion, a multi-generational networking event where the pioneers of the 1990s can connect with our most recent returnees from the United States. Furthermore, we plan to take the celebrations into the regions, visiting our partner universities and communities across the country.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be part of a community that has proven for eight decades that education and personal connection are the strongest pillars of a free world. Stay tuned to our website and social media—the celebrations are just beginning!
