Applications are welcome from graduating seniors interested in all academic fields, and/or graduate students interested in international education. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Positions require teaching 15 to 20 45-minute class periods per week. In addition, grantees are encouraged to have a supplementary project, such as a film club, an English conversation club, a sports club or a community-building activity to further engage with their students and local communities.
Applicants must be articulate native English speakers. Knowledge of Czech is an advantage.
The school year is 10 months, September 1 through June 30. The grant period starts approximately a week before the start of the academic year by a 4-day orientation seminar for all English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) in Liblice, about an hour away of Prague. After the seminar, ETAs will transfer to their host institutions. Additionally, the Fulbright Commission organizes a 3-day orientation in mid-September in Prague, a mid-year conference in early February and a farewell meeting at the end of the grant period. Attendance at all these events is mandatory.
Grantees will be placed as assistant teachers in English classes at Czech secondary schools corresponding to their academic background, interests and project priorities. Grantees are placed outside of Prague in smaller towns and they are assigned placements to schools based on information in their applications. Grantees can not directly request or influence the selection of the placement, the Commission decided the most appropriate placement for every grantee. Housing will be arranged with the help of the host institution and the Fulbright Commission.
